THE train drivers' ASLEF union is threatening to ballot members who work on Eurotunnel. For years Eurotunnel has refused to recognise any trade unions. ASLEF and the TGWU have been running a joint campaign for recognition. Eurotunnel, knowing that new union recognition laws are coming into effect, has approached the TGWU to sign a single-union deal. Around 150 of Eurotunnel's 270 train crew are ASLEF members and the union says it will ballot for strikes unless the company recognises the union.
