Osama Hussein Nasr, known as Abu Omar, is an Islamic preacher who was kidnapped by the CIA in 2003.
He was “rendered” to Egypt where he suffered brutal torture.
Abu Omar broke the silence imposed on him by the Egyptian state to expose the torture.
He told the anti-torture forum at the Cairo conference, “I was severely tortured by the mukhabarrat (secret police) and state security.
“I was electrocuted for months, till my whole body turned black,”
The Alexandrian cleric was kidnapped in Milan, Italy, and sent to Egypt where he was tortured.
He was one of the many “ghost prisoners” who were shunted between secret US prisons in private jets.
Abu Omar expressed fears of re-arrest by the Egyptian police for speaking to the media, but insisted he will keep on talking.
He said, “If I stay silent, this torture will continue.”
Ibrahim el-Houdaiby, a blogger and Muslim Brotherhood activist, appealed for international solidarity for the prisoners of Mubarak’s regime.
He said, “We have our differences but we are all freedom fighters. We all fight this unjust, aggressively capitalist world order that only serves a handful of people.”
