Protests are planned this weekend and on Monday in solidarity with the fight against Plan Colombia, the US-backed war in the South American country aimed at smashing resistance to neo-liberal economic policies.
Last Friday Aury Sara Marrugo, a leading figure in the Colombian United Oil Workers union, was kidnapped by paramilitaries in the city of Cartagena. Trade unionists and human rights activists fear for his life and are calling for protests to the Colombian government.
