The cost of human life in Afghanistan is cheap.
The US gives compensation to families who have had relatives killed.
It raised this to around £1,500 in 2007.
But the US has accused Afghans of fabricating deaths to get money.
The leaked reports piece together a civilian death toll of 369 between January 2004 and December 2009.
This is a gross underestimate.
In January this year, a United Nations report said that 2,412 civilians were killed in 2008-9 alone.
