Protesters hound private college group

Students are hounding the prospective founders of the New College of the Humanities, a private university that will charge students £18,000 a year.

“Philosopher” AC Grayling tried to hold a talk in Foyles bookshop in London on Tuesday last week. He was evacuated after students set off a smoke bomb.

Last Thursday “celebrity lecturer” Richard Dawkins tried to speak at the Institute of Education.

Students stormed the lecture theatre and occupied the stage.

The Education Activist Network (EAN) organised the protests.

Heads of Oxford University passed a vote of no confidence in universities minister David Willetts last Tuesday.

Students and lecturers followed him to Soas university on Monday of this week.

Police surrounded protesters and arrested four. Protesters followed police to Holborn police station where the arrested were held.

Police arrested another man who was standing on the steps of the station. Video footage shows four officers holding him to the ground with his face to the floor.
