Who is EDL leader Tommy Robinson?

Tommy Robinson is a founding member of the EDL. His real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon—and he’s a Nazi.

He joined the fascist British National Party (BNP) in 2004 in Bedford. But he tried to cover up his real identity to play down the EDL’s links with fascism.

Earlier this month Yaxley-Lennon warned that “some people will be taking the law into their own hands” to oppose the building of a mosque in Blackpool.

In the run-up to an EDL protest in Bolton last year, Yaxley-Lennon warned, “I cannot rule out violence.”

Leading EDL supporter Alan Lake said the EDL wanted to “reach out to more physical groups like football fans”.

Yaxley-Lennon seems to have followed this strategy.

He was convicted just this week of leading 100 football fans in a street brawl in Luton in August last year.
