Sheffield unions make protest battle plan

Unions in Sheffield are determined to make the TUC anti-austerity march in October a massive show of strength.

Activists want everyone in the city to know about the national demo, and the local constituency protests against Nick Clegg and David Cameron that will lead up to it.

Reps from Unison, FBU, Ucatt, RMT, PCS, NASUWT, Napo, NUT, Prospect, Usdaw, NUJ and Sheffield Trades Council are meeting up this month to make their anti-austerity battle plan.

Ben Morris organised the meeting. He explained, “The TUC say they are aiming to surpass the historic demonstration of 26 March 2011.

“But we have to make that a reality. The demo gives us a chance to say the fight is back on.

“And the sooner we start building it, the bigger it will be.

“Already the PCS are considering booking trains to take their members to London.'
