A refugee has died under mysterious circumstances at the privately run Harmondsworth Immigration Removal Centre near Heathrow airport. The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has launched an investigation into the death.
Prince Ofosu, a 31 year old Ghanaian, died on Tuesday of last week. Other detainees say he had been forcibly restrained and taken to the isolation cells the day before he died.
The Geo group, which runs the centre, is the second largest for-profit prison operator in the US. This is the sixth death at the facility since 1989. Protesters held a demonstration outside the centre on Tuesday of this week.
