Survey bound to support closure

NHS North west London has claimed it has majority popular support for plans to close four local A&Es. Some 5,000 people marched through Ealing against the plan in September.

But the organisation’s public “consultation” was guaranteed to give the answer it wanted—because all three options offered included A&E closures. The 66,000 signatures on 18 petitions were counted as just 18 responses.

Stop privateers in Manchester

Manchester’s patient transport service is set to be privatised and taken over by Arriva’s patient transport section, Ambuline, in March next year.

Ambuline has run patient transport in Leicester since July. A critical report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in October said that Ambuline often picked up patients late.

The firm did not have a proper plan in place for cleaning ambulances. CQC told Ambuline its service must improve immediately.

There will be lobby of parliament over the issue on Monday 10 December at 11am. For more details on the campaign go to savemanchesterpatienttransport.org.uk

Plan to converge on trust boss

Over 500 people came to the Save Lewisham hospital rally in south east London on Wednesday of last week. They planned action to follow up the recent demonstration that surrounded the hospital.

Protesters were set to “Converge on Kershaw” when local trust boss Matthew Kershaw speaks at a public consultation on Tuesday of this week.

There is a Save Our Hospitals coordinating meeting on Thursday 6 December, 6pm, at the Thatcher Room, Portcullis House, Bridge St, London SW1A 2LW.
