Health workers in Bolton, Greater Manchester, are beginning a campaign against attacks on their jobs.
Bolton NHS staff side committee voted last week to oppose 500 redundancies, 1,500 dismissals and re-engagements, and thousands of downgradings. These are part of a £38 million cuts package.
Meetings of union members are planned to discuss industrial action. Staff are set to protest on Monday of next week when Princess Anne opens the new maternity unit where 50 midwives face redundancy.
They have also been part of a vibrant joint staff and community Keep the A&E Open campaign. It collected 28,000 signatures in less than ten weeks.
They are very angry that the “turnaround director” responsible for implementing the cuts package was being paid £3,000 a day.
