Bosses at Halesowen College in the Black Country dismissed three lecturers on Friday of last week.
All were active members of the UCU union.
The move follows the sacking of Dave Muritu, a popular maths lecturer and branch secretary of the UCU at the college, last month.
The official reason for all four dismissals is students’ failure to reach certain standards. Yet management agreed that lesson observations showed they were good teachers.
Union members say the sackings are an attack on union organisation, and set a precedent for getting rid of more good lecturers.
More than 9,000 people have signed a petition to reinstate Dave. Protests took place at the college last week and more are planned.
UCU members at the college unanimously backed strikes over the issue in an unofficial ballot. They are set to begin an official ballot from Friday of this week.
