Teenager Melissa Jones was arrested, spent ten hours in a cell and faced a gruelling eight months waiting to go to trial.

But prosecutors last week admitted police had got it wrong.

Her only crime was to be autistic with learning difficulties. But they’d charged her for being drunk and disorderly.

Melissa was beaten up at a shop near her home in Edge Hill. She was in tears when the cops arrived. But they arrested her.

And despite a doctor at the police station confirming she hadn’t been drinking, they pursued her in the courts for eight months of “hell”.

Inadequate Freud backs down

Disability minister Esther McVey and welfare smasher Lord Freud have been forced into an embarrassing U-turn after sneaking harsher criteria into new tests for disability benefits.

Freud admitted “I have to accept that there was inadequate discussion of the changes and that there is inadequate understanding of them.”
