Students occupying a building at Sussex university protested on Thursday of last week. The occupation is part of a campaign against the privatisation of 235 jobs.
Some 60 students came to Revolt: Ideas to Change the World, a Socialist Worker Student Society event, in Manchester last Sunday.
Sessions on the politics of Leninism, Marxism, feminism and the fight for women’s liberation were popular.
There was a high level of participation in the discussions. These were fresh and interesting with students new to socialist politics asking insightful questions.
Austerity and resistance were popular themes throughout all meetings.
Students debated the fight against privatisation of university services and sexism on campuses.
Many said they felt confident in going back to their universities with new ideas for organisation.

The deputy ambassador of Israel Alon Roth-Snir was unable to complete a talk at the University of Essex on Wednesday of last week.
Around 200 students protested in solidarity with the Palestinians.
