Another young man from Tooting, south London, has been arrested by British police following an extradition request by US authorities on trumped up “terrorism” charges.
Talha Ahsan is a friend of Babar Ahmad, who has been detained since 2004 and faces extradition to the US on similar grounds. He is a well known and respected figure in the local community and has been active in Babar’s support campaign.
The police arrested Talha on 19 July. He was refused bail at a hearing on Wednesday of last week and is being detained in HMP Belmarsh. Campaigners have set up the website www.freetalhaahsan.com
Babar Ahmad’s high court appeal against extradition to the US was heard last month. He is currently awaiting the verdict.
